Welcome to YEAR 6
We are very pleased to welcome your children back into their new classroom for a new year of learning. This term, we will be focussing on recalling and embedding the children’s prior Year 1 learning before extending into areas of greater challenge. Children will be encouraged continually to achieve their best against our school values of perseverance, respect, independence, determination and empathy. Our packed curriculum and workshop opportunity means there is something for all children to enjoy and excel at.

Autumn Term Curriculum
English
In English, we will be using a range of techniques used within fictional texts, such as Harry Potter, to build settings and create characters. We will also explore the use of a variety of grammatical features to broaden our vocabulary and make our writing dynamic and exciting to read.
Maths
In Maths, we will be looking at numbers up to ten million. We will look at the place value of numbers and in particular writing, rounding, comparing and ordering numbers. We will then explore the four operations and useful methods to support us.
Learning Journey
In history, we will delve into World War II and the impact that it had. In addition, our children will attend a workshop at Churchill’s War Room where key decisions were made in strategy during World War II. In science, we will explore the theory of Evolution, we will be investigating the way that living things have changed over time. In RE, we will identify what qualities are important to present day religious leaders.
Music
In music we will be learning about music and technology. Nowadays, music and songs are often created and composed using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). In all the units of work, there is a combination of live instruments with a DAW.
PE
In PE we will be learning about Health Related Exercise. We will be working on improving our strength, flexibility and cardiovascular system. Pupils will also be working on improving their agility, balance and coordination in Football.
Computing
In Computing we are going to learn how use spreadsheets with google sheets.
We are going to learn to:
-know what a spreadsheet looks like.
-navigate and enter data into cells.
- introduce some basic data formulae for percentages, averages and max and min numbers.
PSHE
Our unit is ‘Being Me in My World’ where we will identify our hopes and fears for the future and reflect on how what we can do to achieve goals and settle fears. We will also learn about celebrating differences.
Spanish
In Spanish we will be learning Colours (Los Colores) Numbers (Los Numeros) 1-30, Days of the week and Months of the year Calendario(Calendario)
