Welcome to YEAR 5

We are glad to be welcoming you back after what was a well deserved break for all. This term, we will be focussing on recalling and embedding the children’s prior Year 4 learning before extending into areas of greater challenge. Children will be encouraged continually to achieve their best against our school values of perseverance, respect, independence, determination and empathy. 

Our packed curriculum and workshop opportunity means there is something for all children to enjoy and excel at.

Autumn Term Curriculum

English 

In English we will be looking at a range of genres to support the children to write a variety of stories and non-fiction texts, including myths and instructions. We will also use grammar rules to up-level our writing.  

Maths 

In Maths we will be looking at numbers up to one million.  We will look at the place value of numbers and in particular writing, rounding, comparing and ordering numbers.  We will then explore the four operations and useful methods to support us.

Learning Journey 

In RE we will be learning about ‘What inner forces affect how we think and behave?’ In Geography we will be learning about The Americas.  We will explore various countries in the North and South America as well as researching into the surrounding water bodies.  In Autumn 2 we will be learning about Earth and Space in Science.

Music

I music we will be learning about melody and harmony in music.

A melody (or a tune) is a group of notes played one after another. In music, 'melody' contrasts with 'harmony'. Harmony means notes which are played at the same time, like chords.

PE

In PE we will be learning about Health Related Exercise. We will be working on improving our  strength, flexibility and cardiovascular system. Pupils will also be working on improving their agility, balance and coordination in Football.

Computing

In Computing we will be learning how to use the word processing tool. We will be learning to:

-  know what a word processing tool is for.

-  add and edit images to a word document.

- know how to use word wrap with images and text.

- change the look of text within a document.

PSHE

In PSHE our topic is 'Being in My World' where the children will identify their personal goals an think about potential challenges. In Autumn 2 we will be learning about celebrating differences.

Spanish

In Spanish we will be learning Colours (Los Colores) Numbers (Los Numeros) 1-30, Days of the week and Months of the year Calendario(Calendario)
