Welcome to YEAR 4
We are very pleased to welcome your children back into their new classroom for a new year of learning. This term, we will be focussing on recalling and embedding the children’s prior Year 3 learning before extending into areas of greater challenge. Children will be encouraged continually to achieve their best against our school values of perseverance, respect, independence, determination and empathy. Our packed curriculum and workshop opportunity means there is something for all children to enjoy and excel at.

Autumn Term Curriculum
English
In English, we will be looking at a range of genres that will help support the children in writing a variety of narratives and non-fiction pieces. We will explore a range of sentence types and use advanced vocabulary to create engaging pieces of writing.
Maths
In maths, we will be focusing on place value and reading and writing numbers up to 10 000. We will also focus on rapid recall of our times tables up to 12, with their related division facts. Another area of focus during the Autumn term, will be addition and subtraction.
Learning Journey
In History, we will be having a look at the Vikings and Anglo Saxons and how Britain was ruled during this time.
In RE, there will be a focus on how and why Hindus worship in the home and in the Mandir.
In Art, we will be looking at Jean Micheal Basquait and what inspired him to do the work he did.
In Science, we will be focussing on two different units (living things and their habitats and animals including humans) that will help us understand living things around us.
Music
In music, we will be learning about musical structures. Musical sections that repeat or change help create the structure, or form, of a piece of music or a song.
PE
In PE, we will be learning about Health and Well being. The focus will be on mindfulness. We will be learning how to use different relaxation techniques. Pupils will also be working on improving their agility, balance and coordination in Netball.
Computing
In Computing we will be learning how to use the word processing tool. We will be learning to:
- know what a word processing tool is for.
- add and edit images to a word document.
- know how to use word wrap with images and text.
- change the look of text within a document.
PSHE
In PSHE this term we will be looking at 'Being me in my world' and 'Celebrating Difference'. This will involve the children identifying hopes and dreams for the future, as was as celebrating differences within our classes, school, community and wider world.
Spanish
In Spanish we will be learning Colours (Los Colores) Numbers (Los Numeros) 1-20 and Days of the week (Calendario)
