Welcome to YEAR 1
We are very pleased to welcome your children back into their new classroom for a new year of learning. This term, we will be focussing on recalling and embedding the children’s prior learning before extending into areas of greater challenge. Children will be encouraged continually to achieve their best against our school values of perseverance, respect, independence, determination and empathy. Our packed curriculum and workshop opportunity means there is something for all children to enjoy and excel at.

Autumn Term Curriculum
In English, we will be developing our phonics skills by consolidating and developing our sounds knowledge to decode new words. Our writing texts will be the text, ‘Six Dinner Sid.’ We will apply our phonetic knowledge to write character descriptions and create an information booklet.
In RE, we will be learning about Christianity. We will start of by learning about what it means to belong to Christianity and then we will explore how Christians celebrate Christmas.
In science, We will be learning how to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals and learn about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
In DT our focus will be cooking and nutrition we will be looking at traditional recipes from their cultures into school then we will have a go at making one of them.
In geography we will be looking at our local area. We will be exploring the different types of buildings in our community and all the people who help us stay safe in Newham.
In Music we will be learning about my musical heartbeat. Every piece of music has a heartbeat - a musical heartbeat. In music, we call it the 'pulse' or the 'beat' of the music. When you are listening and singing to the music and songs in this Unit, try to find and keep the pulse or steady beat together.
In PE we will be learning about Health and Well Being. We will be working on improving our agility, balance and coordination.
Our topic for this term is Lego Builders. We will be learning
to follow and create simple
instructions on the computer.
We will also be learning about how to stay safe online.
In PSHE, our topic is ‘Being Me in My World’ where we will identify our hopes and fears for the future and explore our rights and responsibilities within the class and school. Our second topic will be ‘Celebrating Difference, We will be exploring the similarities and differences amongst each other and learning about how we can respect each other.
In Spanish we will be learning Colours (Los Colores) Numbers (Los Numeros) 1-10 and Days of the week (Calendario)
