OUR CURRICULUM

Upton Cross Primary School follows the National Curriculum (2014).  As a school we strongly believe that a rich, vibrant and varied curriculum should motivate children to become independent, reflective and confident learners.

When organising our curriculum, we begin by considering the learning experiences we want for our children.  Those experiences include;

REAL WORLD

to develop a range of life skills (cooking, sewing, road safety etc.)
to be confident speakers

to experience professionals from different fields of work

to visit ‘Iconic’ London

to visit different environments (seaside, forest, farm, village etc.)

to experience a residential visit

to understand local, national and global events

to visit different places of worship

to work with a range of people and cope with conflict

to collaborate with children from other schools

to enter competitions

BEING RESPONSIBLE

to raise money for a charity

to understand their impact on the environment and how it might be reduced

ARTISTIC

to listen to a range of music

to see a live performance of music, drama or dance in a theatre

to visit an art gallery and museum

to play a musical instrument

to perform music, drama or dance confidently in front of an audience

PHYSICAL

to learn to swim and to ride a bike proficiently
to participate in team and competitive sports and outward-bound experiences

to be confident in taking well considered physical risks

BEING A LEARNER

to develop independence and self-awareness

to cope with challenge and develop ways of overcoming it

to develop empathy with others

In this section of the website, you can see how these experiences are planned for in each subject and how our curriculum is organised over the year.
